Some things in life are absolutely reliable and then there are surprises. Summer is definitely coming, there will death and taxes, but luckily we also know that Liz Meacham will blow us away with her sweet and powerful voice and Stewart Abrams will make something beautiful happen. We are also expecting a number of surprise guests to sit in for a song or two. These gigs have turned into a bit of an all-star open mic. Great fun.

Friday April 16: Black River Belles

If you haven’t seen the Black River Belles yet, you are really missing out. These ladies are smart, funny, and talented and bring a welcome ray of sunshine wherever they go. Traditional bluegrass standards rub elbows with current hits rendered in three-part harmony and guitar, fiddle, and stand-up bass accompaniment. This is likely the last chance you’ll have to see the Belles before they head south for the summer.

These charming, funny ladies stole our heart last time they were in. They filled the parlor with some warm and tasty bluegrass built on their fine musicianship and sweet and powerful voices. This trio is the real thing and we only have them around until the end of the semester as they’ll be touring this summer. Don’t miss out!

Saturday, January 30: The Bar Snatchers

We haven’t got a clear answer as to what a bar snatcher is or what they do, but it sounds like fun and we’ll find out on Saturday when this voice and guitar trio takes over the parlor for what promises to be good fun.

The Bar Snatchers are Sarah Bellamy on vocals and guitar, Dave Stone on guitar and keyboards, and Pete Psarras on bass will be playing the Vine and Bean for the first time, but we’re excited to have them and hope that you’ll help us show them a warm welcome.

This weekend you can also hear to very talented acts that are Vine and Bean regulars.

Saturday, December 5: Acoustic Roots

Acoustic Roots is a traditional music band from Nebraska that is touring to support their first studio recording.  Playing a smooth mix of folk, bluegrass, and country, the group includes Jenny Feeken singing lead vocal and guitar, Ellie Diaz plays guitar and sings back-up, Sean Diaz plays fide and banjo and Tyler Diaz adds percussion.

“Have you ever wiled away the hours on a porch, just taking in the scenery and savoring the company of great friends…moving to the natural rhythm of the day without any help from the clock? PORCH has always felt that way to me. We started this project on a Porch in Vermont back in the summer of 2000, or was it 2001 ? Doesn’t really matter and that’s kind of the point. PORCH is two great friends that have learned over the years to listen really closely to one another and, on a good day, create a wave of sound that is as organic as the blowing grass on that Vershire, Vermont meadow that we sang too way back when. And it’s a mighty big PORCH that always has room for like minded pickers and grinners to come wile away with us.”

Rachel brings her boys back to the V&B. If you have yet to hear her voice and it’s shades of warm and hot, you have yet to appreciate the depth of talent in the local music market. She sounds like Bonnie Raitt by a warm fire in a far away place or maybe Rosanne Cash‘s post-punk niece writing for Norah Jones. We love having her in.
